Driving licence, vehicle registration card
Anyone who wants to apply for a learner’s permit or driving licence can get the forms from the Stadtbüro (City Office) or download the form directly from the Strassenverkehrsamt (Road Traffic Office): www.stva.ag.ch
The first time the application is submitted, a personal interview with identification is necessary at the Stadtbüro (City Office). The fee is CHF 20.00 (payment is possible by EC / Post and credit card).
If another application is submitted, the form can be sent directly to the Strassenverkehrsamt (Road Traffic Office) in Aargau. An interview in the Stadtbüro (City Office) is not necessary.
Transferring a foreign driving licence
Valid foreign driving licences may only be used in Switzerland for a maximum of 12 months (starting from the date of entry). After this year is over, the foreign driving licence may no longer be used in Switzerland. You can get the application for transferring a foreign driving licence from the Stadtbüro (City Office) or download it directly from the Strassenverkehrsamt (Road Traffic Office): www.stva.ag.ch
Professional drivers (e.g. lorry drivers) who want to drive registered motor vehicles in the categories B, B1, C, C1, D, D1 or F must obtain a Swiss driving licence in the appropriate category before beginning the first professional trip.
You can find other requirements for obtaining a Swiss driving licence at www.stva.ag.ch.
