Documents, certificates, registry transcripts

Everyone has the right to access their personal information held by the state authorities. If an individual is unable to request their information, or cannot reasonably be expected to do so themselves, those personal details may be provided to a private person who can prove an immediate and legitimate interest. Information from registries (e.g. time of birth) can only be provided in writing in the form of transcripts (e.g. birth certificate).

Documents and certificates

  • Information regarding a civil event in Switzerland (such as a birth certificate) can be requested from the registry office where the event took place
  • Personal information (such as a certificate of origin or family record document) can be requested from the registry office in the respective place of origin

The following transcripts can be requested from the Baden Regional Family Records Office using the online services:

  • Acknowledgement of paternity for children registered in the district of Baden (only available in three languages)
  • Marriage certificates for marriages registered in the district of Baden
  • Family record documents for citizens of the district of Baden
  • Birth certificates for people born in the district of Baden
  • Certificates of origin for citizens of the district of Baden
  • Registered relationship identification documents for citizens of the district of Baden
  • Registered relationship certificates for relationships registered in the district of Baden (only available in three languages)
  • Civil registry extracts for citizens of the district of Baden
  • Death certificates for people who passed away in the district of Baden

The following documents can be ordered over the phone:

  • Transcripts confirming marital status
  • Certificates and transcripts from the family registries and digital registry (Infostar) of the Zivilstandskreis (Baden Regional Family Records Office)

Information regarding fees will be provided over the phone. Fees are determined in accordance with the Federal Act on Civil Registry Fees (ZStGV).

The trilingual Swiss forms are issued in German, French and Italian.
The international forms (CIEC) are issued in German, French, Italian, English and Spanish.

Apostille/notarisation

Foreign authorities may require documents to be notarised (certification of signatures) or accompanied by an apostille. This can be done at the Pass- und Patentamnt (Passport and Patent Office), Bleichemattstrasse 1, 5001 Aarau, Phone +41 62 835 19 28.
